However, the exact timing can vary based on your specific needs and the guidance of your healthcare provider. No referral is needed to book a metabolic or body composition scan. However, you can receive a rebate through private health insurance and if you have a GP referral, medicare rebates may also apply. If you have been referred, your results will be provided to your referring clinician.

Yes, preparation is essential for obtaining the most accurate results from your metabolic scan. To ensure ideal test conditions, please follow these recommendations:
Avoid food for at least 4 hours prior to the scan (ideally fast overnight if safe to do so).
Refrain from exercise, caffeine, and nicotine for at least 4 hours before the scan.
If you use NG/PEG feeding, continue your regular regime (do not fast).
If you use insulin, do not fast and continue your regular medication regime.
You cannot undergo calorimetry if you require supplemental oxygen and cannot safely go without it for 30 minutes.
